Now, Australians are enjoying the sunshine in the summer, to know when it's time to take cover and avoid a potentially ultraviolet rays cause skin cancer, thanks to new iPhone applications.
Australia is one country with the highest skin cancer rates in the world, with more than 1850 people die every year, even according to the Cancer Council Australia, two out of three Australians have been diagnosed with skin cancer at the age of 70 years.
"What we found is that many people are using the temperature and weather to predict when they need sun protection, but it's really the ultraviolet (UV) is problematic and you can not see it or feel it," said Sue Heward, SunSmart Manager at Cancer Council.
To overcome this, as well as reach out to young people who tend to be less strict with sun protection and the Council to develop a free application that provides daily weather forecasts, including the maximum UV level.
This application has a function alerts and use the GPS system that can automatically adjust to the user's location, direction of time for sun protection are also necessary as a warning UV automatic and manual up-to-the-minute to a level of UV.
"The nice thing about these applications is that it is in your pocket, you do not have to go to your computer or open the paper to examine," said Heward.
He noted that this makes it very useful especially for people who work outside the home in a long time and very risky.
SunSmart App now available for download free of charge and the Board has also established a web widget UV Alert is intended for organizations like sports clubs.
