Plot : With his first feature film, The Alumni Chapter, director Matthew Helderman, has a different issue to address. From the name of the movie, the movie might seem like one, which traces the lives of people who graduate college and then move on with their lives. Though ostensibly similar, the movie has a different message – it doesn’t deal with what people do after they move on post-college; rather it shows us the plight of people who remain stuck in neutral, unable to move ahead. Four college graduates have dreams to fulfill and hope to sustain their friendship, even after they graduate, as you will find in The Alumni Chapter video. But when situations slap them back to reality, all they are left with are broken dreams and unfulfilled hopes. Gradually, the four realize how difficult a task moving forward is. Julian, Mason, Perry and Nika face the truth of their lives – moving on. Their struggle to do the same, leaves them with nothing but memories of their perfect past. As they try to juggle their present lives, along with painful reminders from their pasts, they understand that ‘moving on’ is synonymous with ‘moving alone’.
